Rev. Penny Lowes
Peace to you during this autumn season and welcome to the Congregational Church of Birmingham, United Church of Christ website. We are so happy to have you visit us to learn more about our local church and the United Church of Christ! We are multicultural, multiracial, open and affirming, and accessible to all congregation of approximately 350 members. We earnestly strive to live out the directive of Jesus Christ "to love others as God loves us."
We have a membership that extends from newborn babies to those in their nineties. Every person is valued as one created in the divine image of God. Wherever you are in your journey of faith, you will be welcomed here.
We currently worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. In this service of worship you can expect to find traditional blended with contemporary in music, liturgical dance, instrumental and choral music, and chancel drama. Children are encouraged to attend worship for the first half hour and then they may opt to participate in the exciting church school education program offered as "Creation Stations." We have vital and growing ministries for middle school and senior high youth as well as young adults (aged 19-30 years).
Autumn is an exciting time as we begin the new program year. There are multiple opportunities to engage in learning experiences such as Bible study and mission work for disciples of all ages. There will be an adult Bible study on Romans and a provocative evening book discussion. Our fall ministries involve support for Lighthouse of Oakland County, a Christmas Toy drive for children in Detroit and creating an inviting homey space as we host clients of the South Oakland Shelter for one week in October.
I hope you will have an opportunity to worship here soon. We look forward to meeting you!
May God bless you on your faith journey wherever it may lead.... and may you experience the lasting peace of Christ and the constant presence of the Holy Spirit!
