Rev. Ralph H. Brown, Jr. – Welcome our Bridge Pastor

Rev. Ralph H. Brown, Jr.

Welcome our Bridge Pastor

Welcome Rev. Ralph H. Brown, Jr. as our Bridge Pastor, while we search for our next Settled Pastor,   from January 1 and will first lead us in worship on Sunday, January 9.

Ralph is a retired clergyperson in the United Church of Christ.  He received his M.Div. from Eden Theological Seminary in 1979 and served congregations and UCC-related health and human service ministries in the Detroit Metropolitan Association until his retirement four years ago.  Ralph served as senior pastor at Grace UCC in Grosse Pointe for six years and later, beginning in 2004, led Hope UCC in Clinton Township for 13 years, through its construction of a new church facility in 2011, and until his retirement in 2017.  Between his service to those congregations, he worked for the Evangelical Homes and was the responsible founding administrator of its Nursing Home in Sterling Heights in 1988.  Everyone who has known Ralph over the years has uniformly said that he is a kind, gentle, and enthusiastic leader, a gifted preacher, attentive listener, skilled administrator, and excellent provider of pastoral care.  Since retirement, he has been an active provider of pulpit supply to local UCC churches and has remained involved with the Detroit Metropolitan Association and the Michigan Conference.  During the pandemic, he has preached via Zoom, Facebook, in outdoor settings and also in indoor socially distanced settings.

Ralph currently serves on the Macomb County Health and Human Services Board of Directors.  He is an Annuitant Visitor who contacts retired UCC pastors and their spouses who live in this area on behalf of the Pension Boards of the UCC.

Ralph is married to Cheryll, and enjoys spending time with his adult children, Heather, Carrie and Bryce, their spouses, Russ, Danny and Carmon, and grandchildren, Yasmeen, Nathan, Conor, and Everett.  The entire extended family lives within a 15-minute drive of each other in Southeast Michigan.  Ralph and Cheryll enjoy camping and traveling to visit friends and family.

“My goal in ministry is to share the love of God that frees us to love and serve our neighbors without fear.  This love includes everyone and creation itself.  The difficult path of faith requires that we speak the truth in love.  It is my opinion that this is the core of our faith and the courageous stance of the UCC at its best.”

Beginning Saturday, January 1, 2022, Rev. Brown will be available for pastoral requests or emergencies at 586-872-1618 or brown.ralph.h@gmail.com
